At its core, a practice transcends routine; it embodies a commitment to self-discovery and personal transformation. Whether engaging in the written word, physical exercises, mental or spiritual pursuits, each practice is a training ground and can be a sacred ritual, unveiling layers of our inner selves to our conscious self. The essence of any practice lies in intentional repetition that ingrains lasting impressions, like a river cutting through stone. It doesn’t have to be hard; it can be simple and should start out being achievable.
Just as consistent workouts define and grow muscle, the mind needs repetition to cultivate resilience. Engaging in practices like journaling, meditation, asanas, language learning, weekly fasting, or even going to the gym, these things done constantly create new neural pathways. We rewire ourselves into the thing we practice.

The Tenacity Within and Showing Up
In a human world clamouring for constant attention, developing tenacity becomes an invaluable skill. The act of showing up, day after day, transforms each practice from a mere thing we do into who we become. Our practice is a powerful ally, guiding us through life and keeping us on the path of our goals. It’s the small, consistent steps that pave the way for profound transformation. Through the simple act of showing up, you affirm your dedication to personal growth and a steadfast belief in the potential for change.
Can I change? I see and hear this all the time. I don’t know if I can change; sometimes, we are so stuck in the shape of our unconscious creation that we believe we may not be able to shift that shape. It is here that devotion and dogma to small changes constantly can become our most valuable allies. Doing small things and adding to them until change occurs is the magic of practice and the way to negate the weapons of self-sabotage.
Amidst the diverse array of practices, meditation stands at the core of all. Mindfulness hones the effectiveness of a task, and presence makes for accuracy. In Pilates and Yoga, concentration is a core pillar of the practice for this reason. Meditation serves as a powerful enhancer of focus. This enhanced ability to maintain attention becomes a valuable asset in navigating the demands of life. Meditation is a targeted and impactful strategy for refining the executive function of focus, offering a practical and accessible approach to cultivating a more attentive and resilient cognitive state. Meditation can be our starting point for all treatments of neurodiversity and is the ground from which all spiritual practices grow.
Building a Resilient Mind:
Meditation contributes to building a resilient mind. As we navigate the landscape of our thoughts during meditation, we cultivate mental fortitude. The ability to observe thoughts without judgment is a tool unto itself, and re-orientating the mind back to a focal point becomes not only the mechanism for building the ability to sustain focus but is a skill that permeates into every facet of life, enhancing our capacity to face challenges with equanimity and stay on task.
One of the remarkable gifts of meditation is its emphasis on the present moment. In an inner landscape often characterized by past regrets and future anxieties, meditation becomes a grounding force. By anchoring our awareness in the now, we learn to appreciate the devastating beauty of each moment, fostering a deep sense of gratitude and acceptance.
In the grand tapestry of our life, it is a regular practice that allows us to be the master of the cloth we weave, and meditation builds our accuracy and focus to weave this life with clarity and direction from the inspiration of deep internal truth and knowing. Just start small and grow capacity. 5 minutes a day can become a day filled with conscious purposeful creatorship.
